Course Description: 

The Low Light Recce Carbine Course is a (2) day/night firearms training based on marksmanship principles/fundamentals under the cover of darkness. Shooters will be challenged with executing various performance-based courses of fire utilizing white light (weapons mounted) and/or night vision material solutions.

**The only special equipment (in addition to the gear list) you need to attend this course is:

1. a weapon-mounted white light source

OR

2. NVG goggles with IR laser

Course Requirements: 

  • Shooters are required to bring their own equipment, including any night vision goggles, weapons mounted laser device (I.e. PEQ15) or weapons mounted white light (we do not provide these for you).

  • Shooters must possess a mastery in understanding firearms safety and manipulation of their firearms platform.

  • Shooters must know how to operate their own equipment to use during low light training i.e.  NV goggles, weapons mounted VIS/IR laser.

Course Subjects/Topics covered:

  • Gun fighting tenets.

  • Range estimation/bullet drop/Ballistics

  • Fire & Maneuver techniques

  • Identifying Points of Domination

  • Target discrimination

  • Observation of engagement feedback

  • Methods of target engagement (10 to 500 meters)

  • Establishing a hasty range card

Recce Carbine setup requirements:

Carbine Optics:

Shooter’s Carbine must possess a “Red Dot” optic. You don’t need nor will you use a magnifier.

Carbine barrel length

Ideal barrels lengths for the course are 14.5” or 20”. I use and like all the barrel lengths.

Carbine Caliber(s)/ Ammo Requirements:

  • 5.56/223 (Please contact us if you desire to run a different caliber than listed).

  • 800-1000 rounds of quality ammo are required for the Recce course (i.e. Frontier 55gr FMJ or 62gr FMJ). Absolutely NO RELOADS!

Additional Carbine requirements:

  • Two-point sling (i.e. Vickers tactical sling)

  • (5) 30 round AR magazines (at a minimum)

Course equipment list:

Bump Helmet (optional)

Night Vision goggles (optional)

Rifle mounted IR laser (optional)

Rifle mounted White Light source (optional)

Day Pack (to patrol/walk carrying snivel gear, magazines, etc.)

Chem Lights (disposable or battery operated)

Gloves

Eye protection

Hearing protection (electronic muffs)

Sub-load belt and one mag pouch

Light weight hikers or trail running shoes (students should take seasonal/winter weather into consideration)

Tool (i.e. Leatherman)

Rear bag

Optional Gear:

Clip-on NV 

IR illuminators (hand held)Course Schedule & Location:

The course will begin Saturday at 8:30am at the Range 21:31 Sportsman Club with a short classroom session prior to getting out on the range.  Each day will consist of a morning session, a break for lunch, and an afternoon session.

Each day we will meet at 8:30 A.M. prior to departing to the various range locations throughout the property.  It is important to arrive on time and leave with the group, since courses of fire will change daily and utilize different parts of the ranch.
